COMMUNITY OUTREACH GROUP (COG)
Admission to COG events is free of charge and open to ALL members of the public. Light refreshments are normally served and a warm welcome is assured".
The Community Outreach Group, which comes under the umbrella of SPCA, was formed in 2004 as a result of an initiative by the Rev Dr Maurice Elliott, a former rector of Shankill Parish, and is a partnership between the churches of Shankill Parish, St Peters Parish and St Pauls Parish.
The group was set up to bring together people from both communities to assist in breaking down the barriers and healing the divisions which exist in our town and endeavouring to build trust, understanding and mutual esteem.
The Group offers a programme of talks and discussions of interest to both traditions, designed to inform, stimulate and increase respect for one anothers culture and tradition. Presentations of the main events in Irish history have been particularly useful in promoting understanding of, and mutual respect, for our shared history and identity. Follow up programmes of outings to places of historic significance are also being expanded to include residential visits.
In continuing its programme of outreach, the Group greatly values the support and encouragement received from all sections of the community and would appreciate any suggestions for topics for use in compiling future programmes.
